Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Baltimore Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Lawyer

Are you saddled with an ever-mounting load of personal debt? Do you receive threatening letters or harassing calls from creditors, always demanding that you make more payments that you can't afford? Do you ever wish that you could just go back and start over again? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may want to contact an experienced personal bankruptcy lawyer to guide you through a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing.

At the Law Office of David W. Cohen, in Baltimore, I understand the stress and anxiety that financial pressures can bring. In over 20 years of practice, I have worked with thousands of people who needed to take advantage of the federal bankruptcy laws to get a fresh start. Contact me to schedule a free initial consultation to discuss whether bankruptcy is in your best interests.

In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing, you agree to sell or liquidate most of your assets to satisfy your personal debt. Certain items of personal property, including your home, your car, and other items, may be exempt from liquidation under the Bankruptcy Code. When we work together on your Chapter 7 filing, we will identify up front those assets that you will be able to keep.

When you file for protection under Chapter 7 of the bankruptcy laws, the bankruptcy court will immediately issue what is known as an automatic stay. The automatic stay prohibits your creditors from contacting you in any way to attempt to collect the debt. When you have successfully completed the Chapter 7 process, all of your debts will be extinguished and you will have a fresh start.

At the Law Office of David W. Cohen, we understand from experience that a Chapter 7 filing is not appropriate for everyone. If you simply want to work out a payment plan with creditors without the harassing calls and letters, I can help you file for protection under Chapter 13 of the Bankruptcy Code. If you ultimately decide that you don't want to file for bankruptcy, I can still help you resolve debt collection issues by writing letters to or otherwise acting as an intermediary with your creditors.

If you have questions about a personal bankruptcy filing or want an experienced attorney to guide you through the Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 filing, contact my offices for a free initial consultation. Sunday appointments are available upon request.
